Five Nights at Freddy’s (often abbreviated as FNaF) is a popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon. The series is known for its blend of horror and point-and-click survival gameplay. It was first released in 2014 and has since spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, merchandise, and a significant fan following.

The premise of the game revolves around the player taking on the role of a nighttime security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a fictional family restaurant. The restaurant is home to animatronic characters, including Freddy Fazbear and his friends. The catch is that these animatronics come to life at night and become aggressive, potentially posing a threat to the player.

The gameplay primarily involves monitoring security cameras, conserving power, and using various strategies to avoid being attacked by the animatronics. The player must survive five consecutive nights, with each night becoming progressively more challenging as the animatronics become more aggressive and unpredictable.

The series has garnered attention for its eerie atmosphere, jump scares, and a mysterious backstory that players can uncover through hidden clues and story elements. Five Nights at Freddy’s has also inspired various books, merchandise, and even a film adaptation in development, making it a significant franchise in the horror game genre.

I used Houdini to create atmospheric effects (sprinkler system, low lying fog, procedural sparks) with interactive lighting in the construction of this short scene depicting a Springtrap jump scare and suspense build-up. I composited a number of effects and overlay plates, along with adjusting the overall aesthetic to match the atmosphere within Nuke, with final editing and sound engineering in Premiere Pro.
